Well I went out to eat the other night and I can recommend Captain Loizos on monolithos beach. Of course, one of the best places to eat is Taverna Pirgos with its good service, nice atmosphere and OK prices. Captain Loizos isnt as nice inside but it is a typipical rustic greek-island tavern with clean kitchen and great food..prices are good too.

The best place for Pizza on the island is a place called "η πιτσα του χωριου" or "pizza of the village" located a few meters east (on the road towards perissa) from the main square in emporeio. Wood stove pizza with great crust. Pretty well all other pizza on the islands sucks..Except maybe for Classico cafe in Kamari (not the one in fira).

I have heard good things about "ambrosia" in OIA and also of "1800" (more expensive) Ther is also supposed to be a grat little spot near ST Charalambos church (the big brown church) in Exo Gonia. It is not on the main road but down a path which runs on the east of the church. It supposedly has real good prices

Sovlaki. For me Lucky's or "Lakis" in Fira makes the best gyros in greece. That is my opinion but I have eaten many and I think I am right.

Fish. Taverna Pyrgos is good for Fish so is Captain Loizos, but the best place for fish is "Georgaros" (procounced your-ga-ros") at near the Faros or lighthouse on the southwest of the island. Beware of fish no matter where you go cause it is expensive. So is lobster. Check out the prices which are sometimes listed in grams and not kilos.

Cheese pies. The traditonal cheese pie in Greece has finished....it is now a frozen product of mass marketing. Most bakeries buy the cheese pies frozen and bake them every morning. You can get homemade cheese pies at the Messaria bakery, this is the only place I know where they make them (except at the bakery across the mexican restaurant -- but theirs are not edible)

Well, winter in santorini is weird. In the summer the weather is stable - hot and sunny. Wnter is nice till about mid december however it does begin to get pretty unstable. By unstable I mean the winds can start howl and it can be very very miserable. The cold hits usually in late january and it can remain quite cold early april. Cold and windy here is bad.

Weather wise, If you were to come here. I would choose later in the summer rather than sooner. August September October. Less touristy and decent weather; although by late september you might get some cold northern drafts which might cool down your stay. These usually last a couple of days but they suck if you happen to be on the island for those couple of days.
